My Art: Core Concepts and Beliefs
-
Perception of Color and its Impact on the Mind: Emotional experience. Engaging the viewer in their own personal realm. Driving them to internal dialog on meaning to them, to others and to the unknown. Asking to step back and question own minds and knowledge. Color is everything, its: scientific, perceptual, historical, psychological, spiritual, and philosophical. ‘The Emotional Force of Pure Color’
-
Primary Colors of Interest: Magenta and Violet (edges of the visible spectrum); Deep Reds (human); Broad Violets (spiritual, unknown); Select Blues (diversity of emotions); Earth Tones and Nature (minerals of life, our surroundings); Black, White and Gray (ability to define, question knowledge and understanding broadly)
-
Dark, Quiet Space for 'Noise' Removal: Dark room (or low light): with highlighting for each work (if available light slowly cycling from warm to cool white); Silence: no phones, limited to no conversation; Layout: single large space without breaks/walls separating; Building: no windows, white walls, plain flooring, high ceiling
-
Immersive Experience with Large Number of Works on Display: Large number of works on display in single location. Important for viewer to be immersed to allow relaxation, reflection, introspection, and maximum impact. Difficult to fuller understand and conceptualize art today otherwise, unless you visit select museums dedicated to showcasing power of single artists works and careers.
-
Need for Texture, Human Touch and Imperfection: We are inundated with photography, digital screens and computer generated works. We need to focus on human connection. Driving the viewer to emotionally engaging with dialog and introspection through the colors and textures of canvases created by painters
-
Recognizing Influences and How All Are Impacted: Not telling viewers what to think, but assisting in encouraging thought, internal dialog, questioning and opening one's mind. We wont agree on many issues, however there are sources of knowledge and influence focused on critical thinking, logic and progress
-
Need for Art to Positively Influence and Teach: Powers are using significant resources to influence and control minds and thought throughout society. Artists need to take charge of being positive influences while driving discussion, thought and progress in society, while also being pleasurable to view and interact. Art should focus on making a positive impact and being progressive for society
Note from the Artist:
I am confident 'Colors of Perception’ will be extremely powerful keeping with its current scope. That said, in addition to the ‘Colors of Perception’ paintings, I’ve since inception thought of this as Part I of a larger exhibition ‘Shine On’.
Part II: 'Introspection’ incorporates a series of 10"x7" India Ink Sketches as well as larger black and white photocollages, focused on asking viewers to question 'how'/'why' we as individuals are influenced to think the way we do. Our own mind's lexicon interpreting everything in our world and the role of our nature, society, history and influencers.
Part III: ‘Create’ offers viewers, through real-time photography of themselves, to be projected on large color photo grid collage screens with thousands of other viewers faces, eyes, ears, etc., thus becoming a progressor and creator themselves.
A significant amount of thought and preparation has been done already and photos, sketches and plans for Part II and Part III are available upon request.
